About Us

This is our story, this is our song. Praising our Savior, all the day long.

Sue Montgomery ~ Developer and Director

As far back as I can remember, song has been part of my life. And I find I can’t sing a song without wanting to tell a story, and I can’t tell a story without wanting to sing a song.

I grew up on a farm in eastern Oregon, with wide vistas and plenty of room for imagination – an ideal place for singing songs and having adventurous story that will always be etched in my soul. In college the guitar added richness to my song, and it was there my life changed forever when I met the Creator, King, and Rescuer. Now I had His story to tell and His song to sing.

For the past thirty-five years He has allowed me to teach His Word to children with a heart and passion that can only come from Him. While serving as classroom teacher, writer, producer, and director, I searched for ways to reach young hearts with God’s truth. During the last fifteen years I focused on preschoolers serving as Chapel Teacher. It was during that time the Lord helped me develop lessons for an entire school year, using song and story to teach foundational biblical truths in an intentional sequence. SongStory Curriculum is the outcome of all of these years.

Amidst this song and story, I am grateful for the full life the Lord has granted me – my marriage of forty years, three children with a son and daughter-in-law, and three delightful granddaughters. Add a happy to frolic in big yard, hands in the soil to grow flowers, miniature pony, grand puppy, reading, road trips – and you’ve got me.

It is my hope and prayer that SongStory will be something that touches your own soul, while shaping the hearts of little ones toward loving and knowing God.

This is my story, this is my song.

Margaret Downs, M.Ed

My passion is teaching children to know and love God. For over 35 years I have been privileged to speak life and joy to children of all ages. I want children to understand who God is, how He loves us, and how we can love Him, too.

God keeps stoking a fire within me to write biblical curriculum centered around a child’s development. I have written curriculum for Vacation Bible School, Sunday School, youth camps, as well as private schools providing relationship education.

With degrees in Child Development, Education, and Special Education, I know the importance of using methods that are appropriate to a child’s age and stage of development. That’s one of the reasons I love SongStory. This curriculum teaches great big truths about God, using all five aspects of learning—intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual.

As an educator with a strong background in the performing arts, I appreciate SongStory’s rich content and unique features. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with such a creative artist as Sue Montgomery. She does an incredible job presenting our God to the very young in fun, imaginative ways that I heartily endorse!

These days you’ll find me cheering for my favorite sports teams, creating various crafts, and enjoying the sweet birds in my yard while gardening.

My greatest joy is spending time with family. My husband of 31 years and I have three daughters and two sons-in-law. We’re looking forward to welcoming our first grandchild, a baby girl, this summer!
